My Neighbor Mike...
is the neighborhood dude. He's been in his house for 40 something years, and hes been married for 57 years or so, and he met his wife when he was 9 and she was 7, both 1st gen immigrants from the old country. He knows everyone in a 2 block area, knows all the stories, has a ton of his own. He's a very robust man, at the age of 84.
He just got diagnosed with cancer of the stomach. He had told me on more than one occasion that since he's been retired, all he and his wife do is just hang around and wait for the end. They enjoy their time together, and putter around the house everyday. In the Summer, Mike works on his garden all day...now that I think about it, I have no idea how they spend their days in the winter.
Anyway, I was just reflecting about the absurdity of God when I got his call from the hospital. I don't believe there is a god, or anything other than ourselves as species that has a personal interest in us. Well sometimes I do, or I want to, but mostly now I don't.
However, Mike is one of the good ones, and he is a believer. So for his sake, I hope there is someone watching over him and his wife, so as to provide for the most favorable outcome. I wish I could come up with something better, but its just a lame milquetoast ending based on an inability to have faith. Bleh! So I'm sending out best wishes and good hopes he will never read into an electronic medium because that's what I do.
Favorable and peaceful outcomes to neighbor Mike,
a sad Yarrrr!
